How to make coconut oil at home. How to make coconut oil at home

I want to dedicate this review to my favorite exotic nut - coconut.

Love began from childhood, when I first tried a bounty bar and rafaelki)

Then I just adored everything where there was coconut: perfumery, cooking, etc.

I really liked the aroma and I increasingly bought caring cosmetics (soaps, shampoos, gels) with this exciting smell.

I met coconut oil only a few years ago and, having appreciated its properties, I actively use it in cosmetic purposes(in skin and hair care).

Until recently, I always bought ready-made, but inspired by the reviews of the girls who wrote in detail about its preparation at home, I decided to try it myself. And you know what? I managed!

When choosing a coconut, follows pay attention to him appearance : so as not to be split, it was heavy enough. I usually take it in my hands and shake it to hear how the coconut milk gurgles. It must be there for sure.

In the store where I buy this nut, it is sold by the piece, it costs about 30 UAH.

Opening a coconut is not so difficult, but before you open it, you need to remove the milk.

There are 3 black pits/dents on one side. Just in one of them, you can drill a hole, and pour the contents into a bowl.

Depending on the size, shape and other characteristics (freshness), the amount of coconut milk may vary. On average, it is 100-200 ml. At least that's what I came up with.

Milk is a liquid, like water, only slightly cloudy, has a very pleasant aroma and a sweetish taste.

What to do with him? Coconut milk is very healthy and contains a whole range of vitamins and minerals. Usually I drink it right away, but sometimes I use it to laminate my hair.

To open a coconut, I take a large knife and a hammer. I file a little in the center and, placing a knife along the notch, hit it with a hammer. As a result, after a few knocks, the coconut splits.

As soon as the nut has split into two halves, you can enjoy the most delicate aroma!

I like to cut it out with a knife. It separates from its shell / "shell" without problems.

For the first time, when I first tried to make coconut oil, I made several mistakes and now I don’t repeat them.

If you are going to grate, then you need to cut the slices as large as possible so that it is more convenient to grate.

Initially, I tried to do this with a blender, but due to the fact that I have a large one, it could not make small chips and the first attempt failed.

I read that the pulp can be beaten in a blender with water and then defended, but in the end nothing came of it, and rather because of the coarse grinding.

After squeezing the cake and pouring the resulting “milk” into a bowl, as it should be, I put it in the refrigerator, but only a light oily film formed on the surface and that’s it, the oil didn’t work out (

Later, I grated coconut on a grater and the experiment was always crowned with success.

How do I make coconut oil.

If you are trying for the first time and are afraid that it will not work, then use half of the coconut pulp.

We carefully grind on a fine grater, and pour the chips into a jar (or into another vessel) and pour hot water (40 degrees). After that, let it brew for at least 2-3 hours (and even better 4) at room temperature, stirring occasionally. Water along with shavings turns into milk.

After the specified time, we filter everything through cheesecloth.

Put the resulting white liquid in the refrigerator for 12-15 hours. After about half an hour, a cap forms on the surface and it is already clear that this is oil. It rises very quickly and freezes.

From the remaining shavings, you can make a scrub so as not to waste good.

For example, if I put the jar in the refrigerator at 7-8 pm, then at 9-10 am the oil is already ready and you can get it.

When something is done with your own hands, then there is no limit to joy!

Carefully draining the water, the resulting washer can be placed in a special bowl. If the butter is melted a little in a water bath and poured into a jar, then it will take on a poured shape.

And as a result, I got real coconut oil, fragrant, snow-white in color, in no way inferior to the purchased one. I keep it in the fridge and use it wherever possible.

From the warmth of the skin, it immediately conceals and thins out an amazing aroma!

Dried walnut shells are used in factories to produce butter. However, this is not the best
option. At home, we will not make good butter from dry, stale coconut. The nut should be chosen fresh, with not broken villi, the nut should be light in color. Inside, when shaken, milk should flounder.

At home, we carefully pierce with a screwdriver two of the three black dimples that are attached to the palm tree. Pour delicious milk - we do not need it for butter. We hold the nut in our hand and gradually knock on the coconut with a hammer to go.

Now we need to cut out pieces of coconut crumb, which need to be rubbed on a fine grater and chopped in a food processor. At this stage, we will notice the appearance of oil. The resulting chips now need to be filled with warm water. After the water has cooled, put the chips in the refrigerator.

After a few hours, a greasy crust, 3-5 mm thick, will become noticeable on the surface. It is necessary to collect it and melt it in a water bath. Do not bring to a boil, so as not to reduce the value of the oil. Strain the product into a clean glass container. And we are not in a hurry to throw away coconut flakes, because it can be used for the body as a scrub. You can pour the chips a second time, so you can get some more oil.

It is advised to store butter on the bottom shelf of the refrigerator for no more than a week. From a medium coconut, a 50 milligram jar of oil is obtained. Do not worry that the oil has hardened in the refrigerator, it will melt from the warmth of your hands.

  1. Make holes in the coconut - on black spots and pour the juice.
  2. Open the fruit - cut or smash with a hammer.

Coconut oil can be applied to the skin and hair, used internally for the prevention of cardiovascular and oncological diseases. It is also recommended to fry food on the product - it does not form harmful toxins when heated, which is typical for many other oils.

This time I bring to your attention a very simple coconut oil recipe. It is good because it does not require a lot of time, complex devices, and also allows you to save the maximum useful properties of a natural product. The disadvantages include the fact that the "yield" of oil with this method is quite low. On the other hand, all remaining ingredients can be used. So nothing just goes to waste.

To make coconut oil at home, You will need:

  • coconuts
  • Hammer
  • A piece of thick fabric
  • Meat grinder, blender, or other chopping devicev Large bowl or saucepan

My coconuts, punch 2 holes and pour milk out of them, as for cooking coconut oil we only need the pulp.

We take a coconut, wrap it in a cloth. Then we break the coconut with the sharp side of the hammer. We unfold the fabric, separate the pulp from the shell.

Coconuts cut into small pieces are placed in a blender. And we start grinding them. The smaller the pulp, the better. Transfer the coconut flakes to a bowl.

Coconut pulp is prepared, now fill it with hot water. It should not be brought to a boil, because boiling water kills some of the beneficial properties of the oil. It is better to turn off the kettle a few seconds before large air bubbles appear.

After all the pulp is filled with hot water, expose it to the cold, for example, to the balcony. Or let it cool first and then refrigerate.

As a result, you should get a whitish crust on the surface of the water and chips. This is our oil. Now it must be removed and separated from water and pulp.

To do this, take a spoon (a special chef's spoon with holes is ideal) and remove the oil from the surface, trying to scoop up water and shavings as little as possible.

The oil crust, which we removed from the surface, must be melted for filtering. This can be done in a water bath or microwave oven. Then strain the liquid through a small strainer.

After filtering, it is advisable to cool the jar of oil and put it in the refrigerator.

From 6 coconuts according to this recipe, about 200 grams of coconut oil came out. Keep in mind that coconuts are noticeably different from each other. One of them is more meaty and fatty, while the other is drier. Naturally, the former produces more oil. Therefore, when choosing coconuts in the store, give preference to heavier nuts, in which, when shaking, the sound of splashing milk is loud.

Keep in mind that you will most likely make butter with a little water. It's not scary. It won't ruin the oil itself.

By the way, in this case coconut oil production can be considered irrelevant. coconut flakes should be separated from water and used in cooking or in cosmetology. For example, you can make a body scrub out of it.

And with the water left after cooking, you can take a bath. Please note that this oil is not stored for a long time. Therefore, it is advisable to use it within 1-2 weeks and store it in the refrigerator.
