Turkish Delight - Step by Step Recipe with Photo

Turkish delight, "Turkish delight" or Turkish Delight - this is the name of this most exquisite and famous oriental sweet. Unlike halva and other oriental delicacies, the origin of Turkish delight and its author are well known. It was invented by confectioner Ali Bekir in the 18th century, to the angry demand of the Turkish Sultan to come up with a soft sweetness, after he broke his tooth while biting a candy. As you can see, Ali coped with this task quite successfully: “comfortable soft pieces” (this is how Turkish delight is translated from Arabic) won the sympathy of the Sultan, his many wives, and then the whole world. And no wonder! After all, the delicacy turned out to be viscous and surprisingly tender, like palace bliss itself ...

Try and cook Turkish delight according to Ali Bekir's recipe at home. After all, it’s not difficult to cook Turkish delight at home! Our step-by-step photos of the cooking process will help you with this.

Ingredients To prepare Turkish Delight:

  • cornstarch - 1 cup
  • sugar - 1 cup
  • ground cinnamon - 0.5 tsp
  • citric acid - 1 tsp
  • vanilla
  • instant gelatin - 50 g
  • water - 1.5 cups
  • powdered sugar
  • sesame

Recipe Turkish Delight:

To prepare Turkish delight, take a thick-walled pot or cauldron (thus, the mass will not burn during the cooking process). Pour corn starch into this bowl.

Add sugar to the starch, as well as a pinch of vanilla.

Also add a bag of gelatin and cinnamon, which will give Turkish delight a beautiful color and amazing aroma.

Mix all prepared ingredients well with a wooden spatula.

Add one and a half cups of cold water to the dry ingredients, then mix everything again.

Place the saucepan over medium heat and, stirring constantly, bring the starch-sugar mass to a thickening.

During the cooking process, the mass changes color and becomes thicker.
